5 Signs Your Pet May Be Feeling Stressed or Overwhelmed
Share
We know our pets better than anyone. We know their routines, their favorite spots in the house and the little things that make them happy.
That also means we are usually the first to notice when something feels a little off.
Stress can look different for every pet. Fireworks, thunderstorms, visitors, travel or even a change in their normal routine can sometimes make them feel unsettled. Knowing what to look for can help you recognize when your pet might need a little extra comfort.
1. They Have Trouble Settling Down
If your pet is pacing, moving from room to room or just cannot seem to get comfortable, take a look at what is happening around them.
Sometimes something as simple as extra noise, new people in the house or a different schedule can make it harder for them to relax.
Giving them a familiar, quiet place to settle can help.
2. They Are More Vocal Than Usual
Barking, whining or other changes in vocalization can be your pet's way of telling you something is different.
You know what is normal for your pet. If they suddenly become much more vocal, it may be worth paying attention to when it happens and what is going on around them.
3. Their Body Language Looks Different
Pets tell us a lot without saying anything.
You may notice pinned ears, a tucked posture, panting, hiding or staying unusually close to you.
Instead of looking for one specific sign, pay attention to changes from your pet's normal behavior.
4. They Suddenly Want More Space or More Attention
Some pets hide when they are overwhelmed. Others become your shadow.
If your pet suddenly wants to curl up somewhere quiet, give them the space to do it. If they are looking for a little extra attention, spending some quiet time together may be exactly what they need.
5. Their Normal Routine Changes
Sometimes the signs are not obvious.
Maybe your normally playful pet is not as interested in playing. Maybe they are sleeping more or behaving differently around meals.
Small changes happen, but if you notice something that continues or you are concerned about your pet's health or behavior, talk with your veterinarian.
Calm Can Be Part of the Everyday
We often think about keeping our pets calm when we know something stressful is coming, like fireworks, a long car ride or a house full of guests.
But calm does not have to be something we only think about during those moments.
A familiar routine, regular walks, enrichment, a comfortable place to relax and a little extra attention can all become part of everyday life.
That is also how we think about wellness at Oak & Paw Co.
Our products are made to fit into the routines you already have with your pet. Whether it is Calm Drops, Calm Bites, Pup Butter or spending a few quiet minutes with an enrichment mat, we want pet wellness to feel simple.
Because sometimes it is the small things we do every day that make the biggest difference.
